So just to play devils advocate, I’m going to push back on this a little with the question:

Why does NFL draft position matter to the colleges? How much does you being a 1st round pick based on measurables and potential do for me in my pursuit of a conference championship?

Recruiting.

If OSU wasn’t sending kids to the league at WR I don’t think they’d have nearly the success at bringing in higher rated kids. More of an investment I guess

Though I don’t think success in the league is really a big factor in recruiting. It helps but probably not as much as sending kids to the league

As much as some college football fans like to talk about X's and O's, grit, determination and hard work, college football is about Jimmy's and Joe's. There's a direct correlation between having highly ranked players and winning games on the field.

The more of those talented players you have with the elite measurables, the more games you win
