***Official Political Discussion Thread***

As a Palestinian woman that's been heavily involved in Palestinian activism since my university days, we are in shock about the attention and protests to this level.

I sincerely think it's the state of post pandemic politics and BLM that propped and shifted for the younger generation to uplift our voices.

But, I will say, the mainstream news is wild in how they're framing the protests. I feel like the gaslighting and brainwashing is on another level of some dystopia. It's insane. The double standards, hypocrisy and treatment too.

No one in mainstream news is talking about or centering deep anti-Palestinian racism or the violence pro Palestinians are experiencing on campus and everywhere. They have lost their jobs, harassed, attacked violently and even killed (6 yr old boy in Chicago), and it's all about Jewish 'safety'. What??? Also the fact Palestinians are the occupied and oppressed class and being exterminated.

Will it make any changes to have stronger global opinion and support? I think it already had big time, like us Palestinians are saying, this feels different on so many levels.

There’s one specific video I was talking about that blew up the most from what I can tell and it was a Jewish guy being blocked access. Folks on SM pointed out that he’s been instigating and filming it but the narrative is out there.

Also, something came to my attention. At UCLA protests, there were some Zionists carrying the Chabad-Hasidic flag. It is yellow and has a crown on it. How is no one pointing this out???? So violent fanatic Jewish fundamentalists/extremists coming on to violently attack pro-Palestinian mobs and that's not terrorism?

I am aware some sects of Chabad in the U.S. are well-equipped and have extensive resources, and are heavily involved in the settler movement to annex more Palestinian land.

I honestly don't know which is worse right now, the discourse around the campus protest, or the discourse around the Kendrick v. Drake beef.

Both seem top-shelf silly right now
Both are getting more attention than what is happening in Gaza, but at least the Rap beef is leading to people dying.

There's going to be many lawsuits.

I cannot believe the U.S. government and mainstream media are painting the protesters as violent, when it was the cops and anti-Zionist mobs inciting the violence.

My reaction as a black man living in America reading this....

I think it’s real business as usual whenever we see elected politicians focuses on student protest instead of the realer stories. Trump on trial, Gaza still happening, billions were sent overseas again….

Of course Dems rather punch down on some kids trying to protest cruelty on the other side of the planet than talk about how they are incapable, unwilling, or just too incompetent to actually do what their constituents want regarding Gaza. Meanwhile the Republicans will do anything to try and keep the number one story being about how Trump was paying porn stars for sex.

none of that matters
they are the victims in all of this
everyone else is antisemitic

The agreement at Rutgers was reached on Thursday after students met with administration to present their demands, some of which include: divesting from corporations participating in or benefiting from Israel; terminating Rutgers’ partnership with Tel Aviv University; accepting at least 10 displaced students from Gaza; and displaying the flags of occupied peoples – such as Palestinians, Kurds, and Kashmiris – alongside other existing international flags on campus.

Eagerly waiting for the Turkish and Indian reactions to this...

Eight out of the 10 demands were met, but Rutgers students, faculty and alumni were still fighting for the remaining two: the actual call for divestment as well as severing ties with Tel Aviv University.

Of course.
The problem with these campaigns is that they tend to ignore the benefits that come from the relationships they're trying to break. Instead of simply asking universities to divest from their Israeli ventures/partnerships, why don't they also suggest alternate partners? This is something that academics are perfectly capable of evaluating and proposing.
