Looks like Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela will have some competition for Most Predictable Casting in a Major Motion Picture.

[h1]First look: Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's hotly tipped biopic

This is the moment that both movie and history buffs have been waiting for - the first glimpse of Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln.

Ever since it was announced that the Academy Award winner had been cast in the titular role of Steven Spielberg's biopic, Lincoln, there has been a clamorous build up of interest about his portrayal.

Day-Lewis, 54 , is reknowned for absolutely inhabiting the world of his characters, sometimes staying in a role for the entire duration of filming, even when off-set, so nobody expects him to disappoint.

Uncanny: Daniel Day-Lewis looks the image of Abraham Lincoln, even without the period costume

Though it is still, even for this most method of actors, a tough task to take on the role of one of the most beloved of US presidents.

Lincoln abolished slavery, steered America through it's civil war to stability and orated the celebrated Gettysburg Address.

Master of disguise: Day-Lewis in 2007's critically acclaimed There Will be Blood

Day-Lewis is British, and of Anglo-Irish descent,  so however incredible an actor he is,  some Lincoln fans have expressed concerns that the role would be bettered rendered by an American native.

However, it seems that their sacred cow is safe in his selective hands - Day-Lewis does few films - as a first image has been released.

And it shows that Day-Lewis has captured Lincoln's likeness perfectly.

Twitter user @UVAMichael posted a photo of Day-Lewis with his Lincoln bear and hair style, and it's astonishing how much he looks like the legendary politician.

And that's without the Pepublican's ubiquitous top hat, or any period attire.

The film will also star Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens and John Hawkes as Robert Latham, amongst other stars.

Daniel Day Lewis has been in only 10 movies since 1989 and has had four Oscar nominations.

So I see Daniel Day Lewis in the thread title but I picture Phillip Seymour Hoffman in my mind and was like WHAAAA?
