There’s quite a few big “movie stars” who you can say mostly play different versions of themselves. If audiences keep paying to see it then it’s a good thing.

I think we’ve had this discussion before - there are certainly better actors than Tom Cruise - but very few movie stars on his level.

Rourke comes across as embittered because he was on A-lister trajectory in the 80s and then fell off (largely for self-inflicted reasons).

Yeah, Mickey is just hating he was (and is) a talented actor, though.

And the whole "playing themselves" argument is quite nuanced. But I can argue very strongly that all great actors are playing themselves - that's where the critical acclaim comes from.

There isn’t always context. Rick Moranis was punched in the face in NYC completely randomly a couple years ago. And, sadly, I’ve see random, unprovoked attacks by mentally ill people in others in LA.

There could be more context in the Buscemi case, but it is also possible there isn’t.
